All practical and theoretical skills for the profession of an opera singer are taught with an extremely high emphasis on real-life practice. The repertoire ranges from Baroque to contemporary music.
Located at Munich’s Prinzregententheater, the Bayerische Theaterakademie August Everding offers not only various rehearsal and studio stages but also the unique and historically significant stage of the Prinzregententheater—a grand opera stage modeled after the Bayreuth Festival Theatre.
The program regularly works with renowned conductors and production teams as well as prestigious orchestras, including the Münchner Rundfunkorchester, the Orchestra of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz, the Münchener Kammerorchester, and the Hofkapelle München. The repertoire includes rediscoveries and premieres as well as major classical works.
There is also the opportunity of auditions with theatre directors, conductors and agents, providing valuable exposure and networking opportunities.
The application deadline is March 15 each year. The aptitude assessment takes place over the course of one week in May. The programme starts in the winter semester. A German language level of B2 is required for admission.

Masterprogram Music Theatre / Opera Performance
"The voice needs space within the body, space for sound. The singer themselves is a resonating body, acting within a stage space. There, they are rarely alone but surrounded by fellow singers, a choir, and an orchestra. The form of the collaboratively created music also establishes a framework, creating yet another space within the space. Together with the audience, these spaces are defined and unified, and the singer defines themselves—through their partners, the music, perception, and intuition. Where is the soul? Where are the thoughts? In the inner space of the singer, or in the space between the singer and the audience? A place to discover oneself. Freedom can only be experienced dialectically, within boundaries."
Prof. Balázs Kovalik, Head of the Music Theatre/Opera Singing Program
