Bayerische Theaterakademie August Everding

In 1993, the Free State of Bavaria, through the initiative of August Everding, founded the Bayerische Theaterakademie with the aim of providing artistic training for a wide range of theatre professions under one roof. The Prinzregententheater in Munich became the home of this teaching and learning theatre. Since the 2022/2023 season, it has been led by Prof. Dr. Barbara Gronau. With eight study programs and three professionally equipped theatres (Prinzregententheater, Akademietheater, and Akademiestudio), the Bayerische Theaterakademie August Everding is the largest training institution for stage professions in Germany.

Prinzregententheater

The Prinzregententheater is one of Munich’s major stages and serves as the venue for performances by the Theaterakademie August Everding, the Bavarian State Opera and the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz. It is also rented out to concert agencies and other event organisers. Thus, the Prinzregententheater’s visitors are always offered a varied, cross-genre programme, from readings and concerts to major operas.

Akademietheater

The Akademietheater, located at the back of the Prinzregententheater, is a venue for the directing, drama and musical productions of the Theaterakademie August Everding. As a self-contained studio theatre, it offers space for productions that are created through the cooperation of the different courses of study.
