Dramaturgy (Master)

All the threads of a theatre production are united thanks to them: Dramaturges are mediators between the artistic process, the audience and the administration. At the Bayerische Theaterakademie August Everding they are perfectly trained for their diverse tasks.

Degree Master of Arts
Standard period of study 4 semesters
Start Winter semester
ECTS Credits 120
Language requirements German(min. C1)
Fee only semester contribution of approx. 97 € to the Studierendenwerk (Student services)
Application deadline 30th of April

What is it about?

The Master’s programme in Dramaturgy prepares students for all key areas of work within the field. In addition to theoretical expertise, students gain practical experience in artistic and conceptual approaches through their involvement in theatre, musical and opera productions, as well as directing projects within other degree programmes. This practical training is complemented by classes in dramaturgical analysis, programme planning, cultural mediation, theatre law and much more.

Cooperation Partner

The dramaturgy course is part of the cooperation between the Bayerische Theaterakademie August Everding and the Institute of Theater Studies at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich.
The course takes place both at the Institute of Theater Studies and at the Theaterakademie in the Prinzregententheater.

“Dramaturgy is one thing above all: extremely diverse. Dramaturgs create, analyse, adapt and contextualise stage works. They initiate and support play development and rehearsal processes. They communicate concerns, structures and artistic approaches both internally and externally. They communicate and document artistic processes. They seek to engage with the world in all genres and forms.”
Prof. Dr. Barbara Gronau
Former Head of the Dramaturgy course and President of the Bayerische Theaterakademie August Everding
