Arts and Cultural Journalism (Master)

How does the course work?

The Arts and Cultural Journalism course consists of twelve modules covering topics such as artistic and cultural discourse, journalistic forms of presentation, cross-disciplinary media production, format development and media research. In this strongly practice-oriented course, students acquire up-to-date qualifications and skills to successfully shape the diverse fields of activity of cultural journalism in central positions.

Close to the practice! Students are taught and intensively supervised in small groups by experienced professionals from the media industry. This gives them the opportunity to learn directly from practitioners and to establish valuable contacts in the industry through cooperation with regional and national media companies for a successful entry into the profession. Thanks to its location at the University of Music and Theatre Munich in cooperation with the Bayerische Theaterakademie August Everding, there is also direct proximity to artistic courses and thus to artistic production.

What comes afterwards?

The course qualifies students for journalistic and editorial work in media companies in a variety of positions and contexts, e.g. as a cultural journalist, editor, media producer, author, programme planner, presenter, development editor, social media editor, entrepreneurship/self-employment.

Potential employers: Newspaper and magazine publishers, broadcasters, TV stations, production companies (video, audio, print, web), news agencies.
