Requirements
- Interest in and attendance of theatre performances are essential
- Higher education entrance qualification or entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences, alternatively secondary school leaving certificate in combination with a vocational training qualification (hairdresser, restorer, sculptor, carpenter, art or theatre painter)
- Voluntary orientation internship (3 months) to begin studies at a theatre, in the film/television sector and/or in the hairdressing sector strongly recommended
- Application deadline is 19. Januar 2026

List of documents to be submitted
The following must be submitted for pre-selection, which determines the invitation to the aptitude test:
1. All application documents/information must be submitted online via the application website.
The application website for the submission of documents for the start of the winter semester 2026/27 is open until 19th January 2026.
2. The artistic portfolio with own designs and works to assess the relevant artistic talent (e.g. drawings, photos, documentation of already completed creative works) must still be submitted in analogue form at the Theaterakademie in Munich. The portfolio must be accompanied by a written declaration from the applicant stating that the work was produced independently.
3. For non-German-speaking applicants, a command of the German language is a requierement. The Examination Office of the University of Music and Theatre Munich requires successful applicants to submit proof of attendance at a recognised language institute at the beginning of their studies.

Application deadlines
The application website for submitting documents for the start of the winter semester 2025/26 is open until 19th January 2026.
The deadline for the submission of documents (date of postmark or submission of documents) is also the 19th January 2026.
Application fees
A fee of €30 is charged for participation in the aptitude test.

Procedure of the aptitude test
Anyone who fulfils the admission requirements will be invited to the aptitude test. Applicants will be informed of the exact date in writing.
The aptitude test comprises:
1. Practical exam:
The practical examination consists of several tasks to be completed under examination conditions in the subjects of drawing, modelling, make-up and hairstyling.
2. Oral exam:
Applicants whose results in the practical examination qualify them to proceed to the next stage of the aptitude test will participate in an oral examination. This examination assesses their specialist knowledge and general cultural awareness.
The examination board will reach a decision on admission following a final consultation, based on the candidate’s performance in the aptitude test. The candidate will be notified of the decision in writing.
Applicants found to lack sufficient knowledge in the areas of hair styling and hair processing may be admitted to the course with reservations. In such cases, it is strongly recommended that they acquire practical skills in these areas before the start of the course and/or during the break between the first and second semesters.
If the aptitude test is not passed, it may generally only be retaken once, and no sooner than one year later.
